Closet door (in studio) landscape (46" x 80")

I did this landscape on a whim without much planning and did not basecoat the closet door which was a grayish blue, I wanted it to be simple and easy to do. It took about 8 hrs as I had very colorful plants under the trees but then I decided to tone it down and added the easy to do ferns.

Colors: Folk Art Cobalt Blue, True blue, French blue, Wicker White, Thicket, Lemonade and Mystic green

One Stroke brushes: Large 1½ flat, ¾ flat, ½ flat, large/small scruffy and large fan

Sky

Decide where to put your horizon line usually at eye level, I made this low as we will be mainly sitting to view it, then tape below line. Use a large brush and paint horizontal strokes using cobalt blue/true blue/glaze and small touches of white for the top part of the sky.

For middle part of the sky use same brush and strokes using French blue/ Wicker White/glaze and touches of white with 1/2 flat brush..

For bottom sky use mainly white/glaze with small touches of cobalt blue/True blue.

I then added mound of trees to the left above sky line and bottom right using large scruffy pouncing with thicket. I let some of the background color of closet show through.

Sea

Tape above sky line, use large brush with horizontal strokes and mixtures of cobalt Blue/white/glaze then mystic green/white/glaze blending colors to create a softer look here and there with white only at bottom of sea with dirty brush and glaze. I then added a reflection of the top mound using 3/4 flat loaded with thicket/lemonade/glaze blending to soften colors then dragged a bit of white/glaze over it.

Waves

Use dabbing motion with 1/2 brush to create thick rippling lines of white with dark colors cobalt blue/glaze under the waves, paint these first. Use white/glaze for softer waves.

Trees

Palm trees use ¾ flat on chisel edge loaded with thicket/lemonade, stroke towards center of branch. Overlap braches to give depth.

Foliage

Use edge of small scruffy or large fan brush loaded with mostly thicket and lemonade, pounce or dab arcs toward center of each small mound Add lemonade with fan to highlight ferns.

You can try a smaller version of this on a canvas, email me if you need help.
